I wrote today’s letter during a time when I was reflecting on how easy it can be to use humor as a reflex. Reactively dropping a joke to keep things light.
It may make others comfortable, but sometimes there’s something heavier sitting underneath. This letter is a reminder that you don’t owe anyone a punchline to be worthy of care.
We all love a stand-up comedian, or that friend who has us bent over laughing until our cheeks hurt. But even they (or possibly, you) deserve moments where they don’t have to perform.
Where they can be held, not just entertaining.
If you’re tired of being the funny one all the time, this one’s for you.
